Act It Out at Home
Help your child practice the safety action with their body and voice.
1. Smoke or fire:
Stand up, point to the door, and say, "Get out and get help!"
2. Someone will not wake up:
Get a grown-up right away and say, "I need help."
3. Lost grown-up:
Raise your hand and say, "I need help. I need my grown-up."
4. Dropped snack:
Pretend to pick up the snack, throw it away, and say, "Tell a grown-up."
5. Lost shoes:
Look left and right, point to your feet, and say, "I need help finding my shoes."
6. Homework help:
Raise your hand like you are in class and say, "Can you help me?"
Grown-Up Role-Play Activities
Use this after screen practice. Keep the tone calm, brief, and supportive.
Scenario: Buddy sees smoke
Setup materials: Doorway marker, helper card.
Grown-up script: "Buddy sees smoke. What should Buddy do first?"
Child phrase: "Get out and get help."
Correct action: Move to exit, stay outside, find a helper.
Calm correction: "Good try. Smoke means get outside and get help."
Off-screen practice: Walk one safe exit path together.
Scenario: Buddy's grown-up will not wake up
Setup materials: Helper card.
Grown-up script: "Buddy's grown-up is not waking up. What does Buddy say?"
Child phrase: "I need help."
Correct action: Get help right away and use simple help words.
Calm correction: "Nice effort. Use simple help words and get a grown-up."
Off-screen practice: Practice the phrase in short calm rounds.
Scenario: Buddy gets lost at a store
Setup materials: Helper picture cards.
Grown-up script: "Buddy is lost. Who is a safe helper?"
Child phrase: "I need help. I need my grown-up."
Correct action: Find a worker and ask for help.
Calm correction: "Good try. Buddy stays inside and asks a safe helper."
