Grown-Up Fire Drill Practice
- Test smoke alarms and tell children before the sound starts.
- Do a smoke alarm sound match: alarm sound means get outside.
- Practice getting outside using calm, simple language.
- Pick and practice one family meeting place outside.
- Practice two ways out from key rooms when possible.
- Draw a simple home escape map together.
- Practice stay outside and do not go back for toys, pets, or belongings.
Helper and Body-Safety Practice
- Explain firefighters are helpers, even when gear looks different.
- Practice the phrase: Do not hide. Firefighters help.
- Practice stop, drop, cover your face, and roll as a calm movement routine.
- Name hot things in the home and repeat: hot things are for grown-ups.
- Repeat: matches and lighters are tools, not toys. Tell a grown-up.
